WS "Fluke" Holland (April 22, 1935-September 23, 2020) was an American drummer who played with Carl Perkins, and later for Johnny Cash in the bands The Tennessee Three, The Great Eighties Eight, and The Johnny Cash Show Band.

Fluke Holland sat on stage with Johnny Cash more and longer than anyone else.
From Atlantic City, New Jersey through Flint, Michigan, and everywhere in between, he spent 37 years as «the Man Behind the Man in Black». As the only drummer Johnny ever had, and the man who made the «Tennessee Two» into the «Tennessee Three», Fluke was present for some of the most iconic moments in music history, including 'Folsom Prison', San Quentin and the White House. He played on «Ring of Fire» and «Man in Black», and was at his drums the first time Johnny and June performed together and when she said «Yes» in Ontario in 1968.
WS - just the letters, like J.R., but just the letters, nothing else - got his nickname because it seemed that «everything I did was a fluke,» but he had a knack for being where he - and history - needed him to be. He had never picked up a drumstick when Carl Perkins noticed him tapping along to a bass guitar. at the side of the stage at a show, and promptly hired him as his drummer. Next thing Fluke knew, he was in the studio with Carl, recording something called «Blue Suede Shoes». And, he was right there in Sun Studio in Memphis when four guys got together for an impromptu jam session that forever immortalized them as the «Million Dollar Quartet». Then, when Johnny Cash needed a drummer to expand his sound, there was Fluke, who signed on for a lifetime of legend.
Ever generous, Fluke never tired of meeting and entertaining Cash fans, recounting stories, joining in musical revues (including appearing - as himself - in modern-day recreations of that night in Memphis, more than a half-century later), even inviting the faithful into his ho.me for tours and history lessons, and if the were lucky, some of Joyce's Southern cooking. WS Holland leaves behind legions of fans, friends and admirers. He always said his lefe was a Dream Come True. That was no fluke! Thank you, rum Daddy.

Holland was born in Saltillo, Tennessee in April 1935 and graduated from J.B. Young High School in Bemis.
He played drums on the 1955 Sun Records recording of "Blue Suede Shoes" and performed on the "Million Dollar Quartet" session that featured Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Perkins, and Cash. Holland appeared with the Carl Perkins band in the 1957 rock and roll movie Jamboree, performing "Glad All Over." In 2014, Holland was honored at the Carl Perkins Center in Jackson, Tennessee for his sixty years of musical contributions. In 2018, Holland was honored with the "Lifetime Achievement" award during the annual Tennessee Music Awards event at the University of Memphis Lambuth in Jackson, Tennessee.
He was also inducted into the Radio Nostalgia Hall of Fame in Sweden on July 3, 2016. Holland made a cameo appearance on the History Channel program Pawn Stars, accompanying a classic car collector who was trying to sell Johnny Cash's Rolls Royce to Rick Harrison. They did not agree on a price.
He died at his home in Jackson, Tennessee on September 23, 2020 at the age of 85.
